Unit overview:
In this Unit the children will discuss the book title ‘The Lion Inside’ by Racheal Bright and Jim Field. As they listen to the story, they will be encouraged to make links with their own personal experiences of being scared or too small perhaps. They will use the images and the text to begin to make some simple inferences. The children will then recognise how suffixes can be added to a root word. They will use the images and what they know about the characters from the story to build up some interesting words and adjectives to describe the character. The children will then use their knowledge about the characters to plan and write a short character description on either the Lion or the Mouse from the story.
 
Reading Objectives
To read words containing taught GPCs and –s, –es, –ing, –ed, –er and –est endings.
To discuss the significance of the title and events.
Being encouraged to link what they read or hear to their own experiences.
Making inferences on the basis of what is being said and done.
 
Speaking and Listening
To consider and evaluate different viewpoints, attending to and building on the contributions of others.
 
Grammar and Spelling Objective
To use suffixes that can be added to verbs where no change is needed in the spelling of root words.
To use adjectives to describe nouns.
 
Writing Objectives
Saying out loud what they are going to write about.
To discuss what they have written with the teacher or other pupils.
