Unit overview:
In this unit the children will be faced with a very disgusting sandwich! They will use reading strategies to read the story ‘The Disgusting Sandwich’ by Gareth Edwards. They will make simple predictions about the story and make inferences on the basis of what they already know or clues within the text. The children will then explore some of the grammar features used within the text, such as the use of expanded noun phrases, contractions and the use of the conjunction ‘and’ to show coordination. The children will then plan a description of a disgusting sandwich using a planning document that focuses on the senses. They will then use their planning document to inform their writing for the description. Finally the children will be provided with the opportunity to edit and improve their writing.
