Unit overview:
A pair of ‘Golden Underpants’ will be delivered to the classroom. The children will talk about who they belong to. The children will then discuss the significance of the title and events in the story ‘Sir Scallywag and the Underpants of Gold’, recognising rhymes. As they are reading, they will begin to make inferences about the character’s actions and feelings. The children will then use the text to recognise where exclamations, suffixes and plurals have been used effectively. This will all build considering ideas for a new story about Sir Scallywag and the golden (crown, shoes, trousers, t-shirt, vest or another item of clothing of the children’s choice). The children will plan out their ideas using a story mountain. They will then write a new story bringing in the grammar elements that they have explored throughout the unit.
