This unit of work includes downloadable documents for editable Year 1 Science Seasonal Change Planning, worksheets, display vocabulary and banners. Four ongoing seasons activities throughout  the year. These lesson ideas should be built into daily classroom routines, for example monitoring and gathering data about weather. An addition three whole class or continuous provision activities that can be taught at different stages throughout the year, depending on the season.
Children will observe and discuss changes across all seasons. They will understand what we mean by seasons and weather. They will gather and record data using a pictogram based on ongoing weather observations. Children should also be taught what a thermometer is and how they are used and investigate different temperatures relating to cold weather. They will learn some of the features of different seasons such as ice and snow, sunshine and rain and day length. They will use a floor book to record observations and mark the changes.
