Unit overview:
In this unit, the children will engage with the story 'Eddie’s Garden and How to Make Things Grow' by Sarah Garland. They will analyse the characters and their gardening journey, drawing connections to their science lessons and planting seeds. Through verbal discussions, the children will explain the process of planting seeds and cultivating a garden, while identifying the necessary technical vocabulary. They will enhance their understanding of imperative verbs, subordinating and coordinating conjunctions, and commas in a list. The children will explore the school garden area and discuss ways in which they can improve it. They will consider which different plants they can sow and the best way to do this. They will take a closer look at seed packets and how the informative text is laid out with the different features. The children will then plan and write information for their own seed packet, ready to be used when planting seeds for the school garden area.
 
 
Reading Objectives:
Discussing and clarifying the meanings of words, linking new meanings to known vocabulary.
Drawing on what they already know or on background information and vocabulary provided by the teacher.
Participate in discussion about books, poems and other works that are read to them and those that they can read for themselves, taking turns and listening to what others say.

Give well-structured descriptions, explanations and narratives for different purposes.
