Unit Overview:
In this unit, children will explore and identify the names of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. They will describe each of the animals and label the structure of each animal and identify differences and similarities between each animal. They will then learn about diets of animals, including carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. The children will then take part in practical activities to learn about the 5 human senses. Children will understand that animals including humans have offspring, they will deepen their understanding by looking at different life cycles. They will then develop their understanding of the basic needs for survival. The unit will come to an end by looking at the importance of exercise, eating the different types of food for staying healthy and learning about general hygiene. The children will take part in investigations linked to hygiene.
